Despite the tourism industry being our saving grace, there needs to be more diversification to increase the Fijian market size and its market power.
Permanent Secretary for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Shaheen Ali stated that the economic trade stands at $2.1 billion, and has the capacity to grow even further.
“Our tourism sector is our saving grace, but we can not rely on it forever”.
Trading beyond our borders is not a choice but a necessity for the Pacific economies. Our markets are too small to generate enough income to provide a decent standard of living for our people
“A need for diversification so we are not just reliant on one or two sectors. We need to have our industries grow, at the moment the economic trade stands at $2.1 billion”.
Shaheen says with the country facing more imports than exports, more opportunities need to be created.
