The Ministry of Health received a major boost with additional hi-flow oxygen machines donated by the New Zealand government this morning.

The machines will help patients’ breathing efficiency, through the provision of oxygen-rich gas.

The New Zealand government is provided 80 AIRVO machines for use at Fiji’s divisional hospitals.

These devices cost around 1.5 million dollars and are already in use and have led to reduced days of in-hospital stay.

Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says while there is zero COVID-19 cases, the machine with boost capacity to treat other patients with acute illnesses.

Dr Waqainabete says the machine with help improve services at the intensive care unit.

The ICU unit at the CWM hospital is observing a 70 percent reduction in recovery times for patients receiving AIRVO treatment.
