The Ministry of Agriculture will be conducting a full review of all agriculture chemicals currently registered in Fiji.

Line Minister Dr. Mahendra Reddy says this is to ensure that chemicals are safe for humans and pose minimum threats to the environment.

To reduce the harmful impacts of agriculture chemicals on humans and the environment the Ministry of Agriculture will be introducing new chemicals but after an extensive three months consultation and awareness with the public.

Dr. Reddy says the review is necessary to ensure that the production process is safe and quality products are consumed locally and exported overseas.

The ministry has noted an increase in the misuse and overuse of certain chemicals and thus is introducing better control measures.

Over 65 chemicals are currently being sold in Fiji.

The Agriculture Minister will work closely with the Ministry of Environment will be holding awareness from next week and members of the public have until the 28th of Feb 2020 to submit their concerns.
