Minister for Infrastructure & Meteorological Services and Lands & Mineral Resources, Jone Usamate bid farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Mr. Masahiro Omura.
Minister Usamate conveyed his appreciation to Ambassador Omura for his leadership and commitment to Fiji, which is reflected in the remarkable achievements during his three year term. In commending Japan’s unprecedented support to Fiji, Minister Usamate thanked the Government of Japan for its collaboration in areas such as Infrastructure, Water, Disaster Management, and Meteorological Services to name a few.
“I wish to convey my sincere thanks to the Government and the people for your tremendous support towards development and capacity building within the Ministry.
“As you are aware, initially when I joined this Ministry, I also look after Disaster Management. In this regard, I thank the Japanese Government for your technical support in the compilation of the Disaster Risk Reduction Framework.
“For the transport sector, the signing of the detail design works for the Tamavua-i-wai Bridge will pave the way for the construction of a new two lane bridge, parallel to existing bridge to support Fiji Road Authority’s long term goal of a four lane road between the Suva-Lami corridor. .
“In the water sector, we are very grateful for the Ecological Purification System, which was a water project under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which has provided clean drinking water to rural and maritime communities in Fiji.
“For Meteorological Services, I wish to thank the Japanese Government for the provision of technical and capacity building training for our forecasters which is something that we really appreciate and wish to pursue further.
Minister said that the bilateral relation between the two countries is further strengthened through the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting which Fiji is very much part of.
Minister Usamate conveyed his best wishes to Ambassador Omura for his future endeavors.
In response, Ambassador Omura said he is honored for the opportunity to serve as the Ambassador of Japato Fiji“I would like to convey my heartfelt gratitude to the Government and people of Fiji for the friendship, warm hospitality and partnership accorded to me and the people of Japan, during my term here.
