The #FijianGovernment, since 2014, has reinforced the universal values of equality for all.

The Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Parveen Kumar Bala said the Fijian Constitution expresses these values in its preamble and sustains it through the Bill of Rights as a core element of the guiding principles of the supreme law of #Fiji.

As the chief guest at the celebration for the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi held at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School in Vatuwaqa.

Minister Bala said that Gandhi’s victories in social justice were hard-fought.“Fiji, like anywhere else in the world, we do not lose these hard-fought victories that have brought us equalities where we all stand equal in the name of those elements that thrive on this unity and the violence of race,” he said.

Minister Bala highlighted one of Gandhi’s universal message, “An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind”, saying that the celebration gives everyone time to reflect on the important values of honesty and humility.

The event is commemorated every year globally on October 2nd to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The Acting High Commissioner of India to Fiji, His Excellency Sukanta Charan Sahoo was also present at the event.#FijiNews#TeamFiji+6
