Minister Akbar thanks Fiji Aid Melbourne and ABS Fiji for FJD $20.8k roofing materials donation toward the TC Yasa Rehabilitation Programme in the North.
The Minister for Education, Heritage & Arts Hon. Rosy Sofia Akbar received a donation of 500 x 12ft roofing iron metal sheets, worth FJD $17,400 from the Fiji Aid Melbourne and 100 x 12ft roofing iron metal sheets worth FJD $3,480 from ABS Fiji for rebuilding homes in the North that were devastated by TC Yasa.
Minister Akbar is back in the Northern Division this week to review the status of the 68 schools being used as evacuation centres and to gauge the reality of school opening time frames for 2021.The Minister will hand over the roofing material donations to those whose homes were severely damaged by TC Yasa during this visit.
Minister Akbar has thanked everyone who has selflessly come forward to support the cause of rebuilding lives and communities in the wake of TC Yasa.
“This Christmas, we are facing the unique challenges of re-building lives and communities in the wake of TC Yasa, but our resolve and courage as a nation will triumph, and we will build back with a renewed sense of purpose and faith.
Throughout this difficult period, many Fijians, here and around the world have selflessly answered the call for help from their fellow citizens,” Minister Akbar acknowledged.The Minister thanked ABS Fiji and Fiji Aid Melbourne for contributing to national relief efforts and for the good work that they were doing to assist Fijian communities that had suffered from the devastation of natural disasters.
Fiji Aid Melbourne had in June of this year handed over a set of 150 computers, 10 printers and 100 pairs of mouse and keyboards to the Ministry of Education to support rural schools that were severely affected by TC Harold.
The Melbourne based organisation has since 2009 provided assistance to needy Fijian families and supported the Fijian Government’s relief efforts toward natural-disaster affected communities.
Minister Akbar also thanked district officials, the Army, Navy, Police, Fire, Health professionals, volunteers, first responders and businesses who were all contributing to national relief efforts.
“We remain grateful to the Australian and New Zealand Governments for their considered and timely response in our hour of need. We are particularly grateful for the deployment of the 600 plus Australian Defence Forces personnel on board the HMAS Adelaide at this time, to undertake rebuilding efforts in our communities.
