Minister for Education, Rosy Akbar received the new Korean Ambassador Park Young – Kyu on Friday 26 February.
“I am delighted to be in Fiji when our two countries will celebrate their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. I look forward to building on the friendly and cooperative relations between Fiji and Korea,” said Ambassador Park.
During the meeting, Minister Akbar and Ambassador Park Young discussed the way forward to enhancing cooperation, in particular, when it comes to the education sector.
Ambassador Park assured Minister Akbar of the Korean Government’s plan to provide grant assistance of USD 200,000 this year for improving the educational environment of schools in Fiji.
The Ministry and the Korean Embassy will discuss the best possible way to utilise the funds so that schools are assisted with the relevant resources.
“On behalf of the Fijian Government, I must thank the Korean Government for this kind gesture. This will surely boost the diplomatic relationship that we already have,” said Akbar.
