A 28-year-old military officer who is charged with one count of attempted murder appeared before the Suva High Court today.

Rajiv Krishan Padyachi had allegedly tried to drown his partner while swimming in Colo-i-Suva earlier this month.

The State prosecutor in the case of 28-year-old military officer Rajiv Krishan Padyachi today objected to his bail.

Padyachi allegedly tried to murder his partner on the 15th of this month.

It is understood that the woman allegedly lent over $78,000 to the accused with knowledge that he’d pay her back.

On the day of the incident Padyachi allegedly asked the victim to join him for a swim at Colo-i-suva where he attempted to drown her.

A team of police officers heard the woman’s cry for help and managed to save her and arrested the accused.

The woman sustained injuries during the alleged incident.

Prosecutor Susan Serukai objected to his bail application, saying there is a possibility that the accused would interfere with the victim and they have strong evidence against him.

The case will be called on the 2nd of next month for bail hearing.
