The Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma Annual General Conference started today at the Centenary Church in Suva.
President of the Methodist Church in Fiji Reverend Dr Epineri Vakadewavosa while opening the Annual Conference, addressed some of key social issues in the country.
Reverend Vakadewavosa says Fiji continue to be disturbed by the abuse of women and children and this is a huge concern.
He added increase in crime rate, murder, substance abuse also need to be addressed.
The Methodist Church is working together with the Gender Equality Theology, an organisation in Australia to advocate on the principal of inclusion.
He encouraged the church members to help stop abuse that is happening in the society.
Reverend Vakadewavosa says officers are already visiting divisions advocating on equality and about protecting the vulnerable.
The theme for the week-long conference is “Keeping the Methodist Drua Shipshape”.
Representative of the Methodist Church from New Zealand, Australia, United States and Europe are also present for the meeting.
