Eight members of the RFMF graduated from the Basic Divers course earlier this morning.
The graduates included four personnel from the RFN, one from the 3 FIR(Land Forces Command), two personnel from the Territorial Forces Brigade and one from the Naval reserves.
The remaining eight finally completed the hectic divers course which initially started off with over 20 personnel.
Four the past seven weeks the trainees underwent intensive theoretical and practical diving training.
The phases of diving included training in the pool, at sea diving and also search and diving techniques in a river. The successful graduates are also earmarked for further diving training and courses in the US Navy and the Royal Australian Navy later in the year.
In his closing remarks, Commander Fiji Navy congratulated the graduates for successfully completing the highly intensive course and also highlighted plans for more diving training and engagement with our defence partners.
The Navy Diving team is a critical unit within the RFN with inherent capacity to conduct underwater searches, minor ship repairs and salvage. There are also senior members of the unit qualified in defensive diving and explosive ordinance disposal capacity.
