A new assistance coordinated by the Malaysian High Commission in Fiji aims to support Fiji’s national efforts on rebuilding and recovery from Tropical Cyclone Yasa and TC Ana.
The Malaysian High Commissioner to Fiji His Excellency Mr. Ilham Tuah Illias confirmed that financial assistance will soon be provided by Malaysia in appreciation of Fiji’s commitment to building back better. “Fiji continues to punch above its weight when it comes to addressing global issues of climate change and Malaysia looks forward to advance collaboration in this important area.
“With regard to the pandemic, we commend Fiji for the early decisive actions of the Fijian Government in keeping Fijians safe from the COVID-19 pandemic. Hopefully the travel bubble will enable businesses to thrive again.”
“In a meeting with the Malaysia Trade Mission, online networking was established between the business companies in Fiji and Malaysia on potential partnership opportunities which can be developed through further consultations.
“For this year, the High Commission wishes to undertake pending areas of collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture,” High Commissioner Illias said. In a new initiative to promote cultural diplomacy, the Malaysia High Commission in Fiji through its partnership with the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) is producing a 13 episodes program that features Malaysian cuisine made using Fiji’s local resources. The program upon completion will be televised on FBC by April this year.
High Commissioner Illias reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthen engagements with Fiji and the region in pursuing shared priorities and interest.
