Independence Day for any country is usually a momentous occasion because it is a celebration of their freedom.
The Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made this comment while celebrating Fiji Day and Children’s Day with the management, parents, teachers and students of Lagalaga Sanatan Primary School in Macuata.
Addressing the students and teachers of Lagalaga Sanatan Primary School, Attorney General and Minister for Education Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says given Fiji’s history, we are now moving forward in recognising equality.
“We in Fiji have had a malicious history in particular after we had the coupes in 1987. we’ve had three or four constitutions and now of course we are on to our fourth constitution which for the first time actually gives everybody common equal citizenry equal rights and the ability to be able to express themselves in an environment that is free and environment that respects all Fijians and recognises equality back grounds.”
In the light of the Fiji Day celebrations Sayed-Khaiyum says that people must remain loyal to our country.
“Loyalty means that you actually put your country first when you put your country first you are able to ensure that we have a strong country. If there are people who are trying to undermined the country for whatever personal or political reason. We as a citizen on this country need to think about the long term goals.”
The attorney general also confirmed works that government is working on to improve the lives of people in Nadogo Macuata.
Sayed- Khaiyum is calling on the youths and younger generations to be patriotic, put our country first unite and work together for a better Fiji.
