Football entertainers Labasa side will be looking to defend their title at the 2020 Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
Under the guidance of Coach Roneel Lal and association president Raiyaz Khan, the Babasiga Lions retained all their players from last season through the football transfer window.
Labasa has played in eight BOG finals and ended their 21-year drought beating host Lautoka 1-0 in the final last year they thanks for Siotama Kubu-goal. Ardent fans will be expecting a win, and there will be no shortage of support for them in Lautoka.
Inspiration will also come from the likely presence of superstar Fijian footballer Roy Krishna cheering on his home team from the stands.
The Lions’ fast-paced brand of football will be key for them in the Group stage, where they will go up against Ba, Suva and Nasinu.
The side is laced with capable players like goalkeeper Akuila Mataisuva, defenders Taniela Waqa, Antonio Tuivuna, Iliesa Lino, Ilisoni Lolaivalu, Lekima Gonerau,Sitiveni Rakai, Akeimi Ralulu, Abhishek Deo, midfielders Ilisoni Logavou, Ashneel Raju, Melvin Mani, Vikrant Chandra and strikers Ratu Apenisa Anare, Taniela Rakariva and Siotama Kubu.
They have been boosted with a timely sponsorship from a former coach and resident Ranjan Sharma who resides in the USA now.
The Sharma’s Investments USA Labasa side will open their title defense against this season’s unbeaten Suva side on Friday August 7 at 2pm. They then take on Ba on Saturday at 3pm. The defending champions will play their final pool match against giant killers GO FRY Nasinu side on Sunday at 10am.
