The Fiji Sugar Corporation has noted considerable improvement for its Lautoka Mill, which produced the highest crush volume for the past seven years, at 610,000 tons of cane this season.

This was also a 34 percent increase from 2017, with the total sugar produced increased by 7 to 57,857 tons of sugar, though low cane quality affected the tones cane per tones sugar ratio.

The FSC has attributed the increased tonnage of cane this year to the rising efforts of growers in the area and the work of the FSC’s Lautoka Sector field teams.

The FSC also noted that refurbishment investments for its upgraded diffuser in Lautoka was beneficial, with increased extraction rates and improved bagasse moisture’s for boiler feed stock. The diffuser’s performance has improved compared to last season.
The Lautoka Mill’s crushing season ended on December 16.
