Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau handed over a new boat and engine to the Nakovacake fish wardens in Navoci Village, Nadi this afternoon.
He said it was the first boat to given to a village on mainland Fiji by the Ministry of Fisheries, Fiji, and thanked the Nakovacake Development Trust for their efforts.
There are a total of 30 licensed fish wardens who have undergone training and certified.
Trust secretary, Asinate Dawai said the new boat would also assist them in combatting illegal fishermen in Nakovacake’s traditional fishing grounds, which spans from Akuilau Island near Denarau to Lomolomo, Vuda.
