Former Chiefs coach Dave Rennie is being lined up by Australian Rugby officials, wanted to replace current boss Michael Cheika, a report from the Sydney Morning Herald claims.

Rennie, 55, achieved unprecedented success with the Chiefs during his tenure in New Zealand, winning the side’s only two Super Rugby championship titles before leaving for Scottish side Glasgow Warriors in 2017.

Rennie’s work with Glasgow hasn’t gone unnoticed. Having led the Warriors to the top of the Pro 14’s Conference A, he’s contracted through to the 2020 season.

Elsewhere on Rugby Australia’s reported shortlist are former Australia and current England coach Eddie Jones, and Wales’ Kiwi mastermind, Warren Gatland.
