The cancellation of
the Kaiviti Silktails debut season in the New South Wales rugby league
competition may actually reap long term benefits for the sport in the country.

The money set aside
to run the brand new club is being redirected into an expanded development
programme.

The hope is the
investment in high performance will produce more players who meet the standards
required to play in the local league, for the Silktails, and eventually in the
NRL.

At the heart of these
new development plans is the former Fiji Bati and Newcastle Knights captain,
Wes Naiqama, who is now the Silktails’ coach and head of High Performance.

Speaking on Pacific Beat Naiqama hopes the investment will result in a new generation of players from Fiji who will be good enough to represent the country.
