The Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau and the Minister for Forestry, Osea Naiqamu visited the island of Kadavu late last week.
They visited the villages of Tabuya, Muani, Naqalotu, Tavuki, Wailevu, Nabukelevu-i-Ra and Daviqele to hold discussions on the way forward after the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Harold a few weeks ago.
Most of the villages have started rebuilding their homes and say that despite the challenges, they are adamant to move forward.
Lenaitasi Niumatasere of Wailevu Village says that their immediate concern is rebuilding their houses.
“After that, then we will concentrate on strengthening food security as well as our source of income which is mainly yaqona farming,” said Mr. Niumatasere.
The two ministers were accompanied by senior officers of both ministries as well as those serving on the island of Kadavu.
