Provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for January
2020 totaled 65,386, an increase of 2.5% compared to a year earlier.

Increases were recorded in the number of visitors from
Australia [2,026 or 7.3% to 29,886]; China [505 or 12.7% to 4,469]; the United
States of America [500 or 8.8% to 6,209] and the United Kingdom [158 or 12.5%
to 1,423].

There were decreases in the number of visitors from the
following countries; South Korea [down 450 or 58.7% to 316]; Japan [down 401 or
35.6% to 726]; New Zealand [down 257 or 2.2% to 11,316]; Pacific Islands [down
181 or 3.5% to 5,022]; Rest of Asia [down 172 or 9.3% to 1,670]; Continental
Europe [down 104 or 3.6% to 2,802] and Canada [down 46 or 4.1% to 1,075].

Visitors arriving for holiday purposes accounted for 73.4%
of total arrivals, 9.6% came to visit their friends or relatives, 1.8% came for
business purposes, while 15.2% visited Fiji for other reasons.
