Police-Chief Operations Officer ACP-Maretino Qiolevu says a call was received that a helicopter bound for the Labasa Hospital from Naituba island was overdue last night.
According to the Divisional Police Commander North SSP-Eparama Waqa, they have activated a search and rescue team that is operating from the Koro-tasere Police Post.
Police are now working with the Fiji Maritime Surveillance Rescue Coordination Center based at the Naval Base.
According to the FMSRCC twitter page the first Search and Rescue flight has departed out of Nadi at this time to initiate aerial search of last known position of overdue aircraft
A second flight team is on standby to deploy Coordinated efforts in progress with SAR response agencies to locate overdue aircraft
It is understood three people are on board including a child.
