The Fiji Roads Authority CEO – Jonathan Moore says, they are concerned at the shocking disregard for weight limits on bridges, around Fiji.
He says an example comes from Vesidrua – Vanua Levu, and they are currently in a position where they may have to close this bridge, and two others, along the Nabouwalu-Labasa Road.
Such deteriorating bridges in 16 locations around Fiji, is due for complete replacement within the next 18 months due to vehicle over-loading, and ‘Load Restrictions’ – must be observed right up to their last day of Service.
Moore added – in several locations, specific weight restrictions have been placed on certain bridges, since they are in a deteriorating conditions, and there’s a serious risk they could be further damaged, if overloading continues.
