The first Fijian to lead the Republic of Fiji Military Force, Colonel Paul Manueli body will be laid to rest today the Lovonilase Cemetary.

Yesterday all roads leading from the Colonial War Memorial Hospital to Rewa Street came to a stand still.

The procession was led by the RFMF Commander, Real Admiral, Viliame Naupoto.

He had a distinguished career with the Fijian military, and while still a lieutenant, was appointed to the post of district officer on Rotuma for an interim period in 1960.

Colonel Manueli led the RFMF from 22 February 1974 until February 22, 1979.

He is also a former Fiji Cabinet minister, Senator and successful businessman.

His most recent position was as Rotuma’s representative on the Great Council of Chiefs, which was abolished in 2012.
