The School of Dentistry and Oral Health at Fiji National University’s (FNU) College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (CMNHS) has attained a milestone achievement by being accepted in the Australasian Council of Dental Schools (ACODS). 

ACODS comprises of all dental schools’ in Australia with the University of Otago from New Zealand and now FNU’s School of Dentistry and Oral Health.

The Australasian Council of Dental Schools is an academic body that is committed to leadership, innovation and continuous improvement in dental education and research advancements that is beneficial to the oral and general health of individuals and communities in Australia and New Zealand with a broader engagement internationally.  

Head of School Dentistry and Oral Health at CMNHS, Dr Osea Dukuno said being part of the organisation is a significant accomplishment as it brings FNU to the forefront of providing dental education for the region as well as strengthening its research outcomes and collaborations with counterparts Australia and New Zealand.  

“Our intention of joining the Council was to further confirm our existence as a dental education institution supporting the workforce needs of the region as well as gain recognition and accreditation of our programmes,” said Dr Dukuno. 

“We are looking forward to this new strategic engagement with ACODS and explore the challenges faced in the region and come up with solutions to these problems.” 

Dr Osea added the College is proud of the fact that most of the faculty staff have trained or worked overseas and the breadth of expertise and excellence they bring into teaching and research programmes enhances the profile of the School. 

The Council members include all Deans and Heads of Dental and Oral Health education providers in Australia, New Zealand and now FNU as well.
