The Fiji National University Students’ Association will donate 500 cartons of books to the Makira Ulawa Province in the Solomon Islands next month.

The donation was made possible following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between FNUSA and the Fiji Makira Ulawa (Solomon Islands) Students Association.

The books will be distributed to secondary schools in the Makira Ulawa Province through its main provincial library.

The FNUSA’s book distribution initiative started last year and since then it has donated books to several secondary schools around the country.

This donation to the Solomon Islands is its first outside of Fiji.

FNUSA President, Ketan Lal said this new partnership has paved opportunities for the Association to work closely with other regional student bodies on similar initiatives.

The Makira Ulawa province is ranked as the lowest literate province in the whole of Solomon Islands and these books will greatly assist them in improving this ranking.
