“The fisheries sector needs to be at the heart of dialogues and discussions because people around the Pacific region depend on fisheries and its resources.”
These were the sentiments echoed by Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau to delegates attending the Pacific Regional workshop, on Fisheries and Green Climate Fund at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi.
Koroilavesau applauded the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) for its vision and for being proactive in taking the initiative to bring fisheries into the climate finance agenda.
He says that this workshop, is something that the region needs in terms of identifying opportunities for technical support as well as avenues for financial support, in order for the ministry to respond to the impacts of climate change in fisheries, and aquaculture.
The workshop ends tomorrow.
