The aquaculture industry around the world is booming as countries look for ways and means of feeding its ever-growing population.

Thailand’s aquaculture industry has developed in leaps and bounds over the years as they also export to other countries around the world.

In a meeting, this morning with interested investors in Bangkok, Thailand, Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau explained the way forward for the ministry in terms of building the aquaculture sector.

“We have been importing a lot of shrimps as well as seafood delicacies into Fiji and we hope to grow our own,” said Koroilavesau.

“There are so many opportunities to invest in Fiji’s aquaculture industry so that we are at least able to meet the growing demand in hotels and restaurants,” he added.

“Thailand, I am told has a lot of experts in the aquaculture industry and we would only be too happy to work with interested technical experts especially in moving the sector in Fiji.”

The Minister and his team will be attending a three days Shrimp Conference in Bangkok from the 12th-14th of November.
