The first ever Resource Recovery Facility in the country was officially opened today.
The key focus of this Sustainable Urban Resource Management project is to improve waste management outcomes for the Nasinu Community.
The initiative is linked to the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 11, which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
The Council and community have been encouraged to use this project not only to manage waste but to create economic opportunities.
The waste from the community will be taken to the recovery facility to be turned into useful resources.
The facility is funded by UN ESCAP and implemented by the Commonwealth Local Government Forum.
The Caubati facility will be operational from the 1st of March.
