Fiji has recently passed a new policy, that deals with natural disaster management earlier this week.

This was revealed by the Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development – Dr.Mahendra Reddy, while receiving vehicles and machinery from the Japanese government, on Tuesday.

Minister Reddy says this new policy is a timely initiative since it was passed by cabinet just hours before the ministry received donations worth $FJD5.8M from the Ambassador of Japan to Fiji, Masahiro Omura.

Donations that will assist the Fijian Government in its on-going re-rehabilitation efforts from disasters such as TC Winston and also to assist Fiji in its disaster preparedness and response efforts.

Dr.Reddy also stated that Fiji is the only country in the Pacific region, to have had a natural disaster and management policy.
