Fiji’s Deputy Commissioner- Rusiate Tudravu attended a 2 day major cross regional seminar in Denmark this week.

He was part of the Convention on Torture Initiative’s global goal to reduce risks of torture and ill-treatment worldwide.

Bringing together senior police officials from 25 countries with experts in psychology, neuroscience, interviewing and torture prevention.

Tudravu says key areas also highlighted through research-based evidence was the increased level of police professionalism in improving prosecution and conviction rates and interviewing techniques.

He  also spoke in a panel on “Sharing good practices and experiences: Safeguards in arrest and Police custody” and spoke about Fiji’s First Hour and Video Recording of Interviews  currently being piloted at the Totogo Police Station and the Criminal Investigations Department in Toorak.

Fiji became a core state of the Convention Against Torture Initiative in February this year an organization that operates on a core principle of states helping states.
