This morning Senior officials of the Fijian Government briefed the United Nations (UN), Diplomatic Missions and International Agencies based in Suva of the current situational report, updates from the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), operational focus, and the Fijian Government’s assessment of the needs and priorities.
The meeting held at the Fiji Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office was chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, Immigration and Sugar Industry and Acting Permanent Secretary Foreign Affairs, Mr Yogesh Jitendra Karan.
PS Karan thanked Fiji’s development partners for attending the briefing and he acknowledged the consolidated approach required to cohesively coordinate the support needed to rebuild the lives of those affected by TC Yasa.
An update and overview on the rehabilitation work was presented by the Director for the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), Ms. Vasiti Soko.
While reflecting on his recent tour to Vanua Levu, the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator Mr Sanaka Samarasinha commended the swift actions and coordinated approach taken by the Fijian Government and development partners to reachout and assist the families who have been affected by the TC Yasa.
In pledging their support for the rehabilitation work, development partners also had the opportunity to convey their current areas of assistance and their plans to further amplify the level of support needed towards building back better.
Yesterday’s briefing was collaboratively led by the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
