The Lautoka School for Special Education got an updated look for the
new school year with help from the FIJI Water Foundation and 80 Williams & Gosling and Transam staff, who assisted in renovations to the school building over two weekends in December 2020.

The Lautoka School for Special Education has a proud 50-year history of delivering special education, offering individual programs for children living with disabilities.

As part of the FIJI Water Foundation and Project Wonderful, employees from Williams & Gosling and their partner agency, Transam, built a new kitchen, repaired its roof, installed new doors, painted, and
cleaned up the schoolyard.

This work builds on the FIJI Water Foundation’s mission of improving the
lives of native Fijians.

The Foundation was established in 2007 and has since partnered with many of Fiji’s prominent non-profits organizations to provide access to clean water to rural communities and help build and repair educational facilities.
Through Project Wonderful, FIJI Water, Neptune Shipping, and Transam employees frequently participate in volunteer opportunities that benefit the communities in which they live and work.

The Lautoka School for Special Education Head of School, Mr. Kailash Pillay, said: “We want to help our students acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead full, interesting, and independent lives.

Over time, the work of the FIJI Water Foundation will put so many smiles on the faces of our students, teachers, and staff members.”

Project Wonderful Team Leader Pettrina Singh said, “The team was honored to help the Lautoka School for Special Education in refreshing the campus for teachers and students for the upcoming school year.
Giving back to the Fijian community and improving educational facilities is an essential part of the FIJI Water Foundation initiative.”

Previous Project Wonderful activities include refurbishment works at St. Christopher’s Home, refurbishment works at John Wesley College’s bathroom blocks, and donations of care and hygiene
packs to John Wesley Primary School.
