Corporate Governance is an important Element in the broader capital Markets development Projects.
This was the statement made by International Finance Corporation’s -Fiji Resident Representative-Deva De Silva on Fiji hosting the first-ever Pacific Governance Summit in April.
The move to have Fiji host the Pacific Governance Summit came following a meeting of the Board of the Pacific Corporate Governance Institute in Suva this week.
The Summit will focus on promoting good corporate governance, learning from international experience, with the aim of helping directors and executives develop effective governance practices in their own organization
Silva says the summit has shown a lot of interest from the local private sectors in developing corporate governance practices in their own companies.
The event will also examine the roles of directors and delve into other issues such as shareholder rights, conduct and disclosure and governance of state owned enterprises.
There will be a special two day audit committee master program, developed in partnership with IFC to provide targeted board level training for audit committee members
The summit will bring together representatives from local, regional businesses, governments, and CSOs.
About 200 participants are expected to be part of the Summit.
