In accordance with the Ministry of Health Advisory on COVID-19, the Fiji Sports Council wishes to advise that the Council is working with event organizers to ensure that all precautions are taken against COVID19.
Throughout the year, the Fiji Sports Council’s various facilities hosts numerous local and international events, both large and small. The Fiji Sports Council anticipates that some large events will be postponed or cancelled. Smaller local events and trainings though are expected to continue.
Acting Chief Executive Officer John Pickering says “it is unfortunate but something we have to comply with going forward and we are seeking the collective understanding and forbearance of our all our clientele”.
To date, the University of the South Pacific has cancelled its graduation ceremonies that was supposed to have happened this week.
The TISI Sangam Convention which was supposed to have happened during the Easter long weekend has also been cancelled, in favour of a future date in 2021.
The Sangam usually draws in a large international following.
The 2020 Fiji Fashion Week, which was also supposed to have happened in May this year, has been postponed towards the end of the year.
After the 6-month period and in accordance with the Ministry of Health directive, the Fiji Sports Council will review this position and re-advice our clientele again.
