On December 27th 2019 Tropical Depression 03F intensified into a Category 1 Tropical Cyclone overnight.
It later intensified into a Category 2 Tropical Cyclone from the 28th affecting Kadavu and the southern Lau Group.
Since the day of the cyclone, the Fiji Red Cross has been hard at work throughout the affected areas, providing comfort, essential relief item and support to identified individuals, families and communities.
Currently, the Fiji Red Cross have 4 staff and 4 volunteers on the ground in affected areas in Kadavu dedicated to conducting detailed assessments accurately, efficiently and safely.
Assessment in Kadavu has been completed for approximately 660 households in 19 communities which includes Namalata, Namuana, Nabukelevu i Ra, Qali i Ra, Daviqele, Nasau, Kabariki, Levuka (Nabuka i Levu i Ra), Muani, Tabuya, Nasegai, Mataso, Namara, Vunisei, Cevai, Busa settlement, Biana settlement,Waisomo and Burelevu.
The Red Cross team are providing assistance in the form of non-food items which are essential household needs; support the Health officials on the island by informing communities on health issues that usually affects people after such disasters and this is done through health messaging; and the teams are also conducting monitoring and evaluation of our approach to this disaster so as to improve our responses in the future.
