Fiji will transit into the rehabilitation phase for Tropical Cyclone Yasa from next Monday, says Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Hon. Inia Seruiratu.

He said based on evidence and information received, areas on Vanua Levu were prioritised according to the devastation made by the Category 5 cyclone.

These areas included the whole of the Bua province, and six districts in the provinces of Cakaudrove and Macuata.Assessment teams, he said have also been deployed and were now compiling reports following the completion of their assessments.

“At this stage, based on the progresses that we’ve had so far and looking at the phases in the work and within the operations emergency framework, we are ready to transit into the rehabilitation phase by Monday next week,” Hon. Seruiratu said.

He said Government was confident about what had been achieved and was ready to transition to the next phase.

“That will be time consuming as well. We have planning figures already and we see how things will go from Monday when we transition into the next phase. We are happy with what has progressed thus far, we have stabilised the situation, and we have brought in the immediate essentials and that is continuing.”

More than 100 Government personnel under a joint multi-stakeholder team were deployed to Vanua Levu to conduct Initial Damage Assessments (IDAs) and also assist in Government’s response operation for TC Yasa.
