Fiji Labour Party mourns the passing away of their Party President -Lavinia Padarath, a well-known women’s Rights Activist and Trade unionist. Lavinia passed away at the CWM Hospital early this morning. She was 74.
Labour Leader- Mahendra Chaudhry says her passing is a great loss to the Party as she was deeply committed to her role as Party President. She was appointed Party President in 2011.
Padarath had a long and distinguished career in the public arena. A NZ trained and registered nurse by profession, she served as general secretary and President of the Fiji Nurses Association , a post she held for 7 years.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
