“With sports as an enabler, the Fiji-Japan relationship has been made stronger moving forward during this COVID-19 period.”

This was highlighted by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Parveen Kumar Bala during the reception for the one year countdown towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence today.

“Despite the difficult decision to postpone Tokyo 2020, let us co-operate to the realizations of gains in 2021.”

Minister Bala added that Fiji and Japan share an excellent relationship and have come a very long way in youth and sports.

The reception was also attended by Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama as well as the diplomatic corps, local sporting bodies and athletes.

The Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency, Masahiro Omura said Japan has taken extra precaution to ensure the safety of all the participants of the games and it will start exactly 1 year from today.
