After seven years, the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side will face Australia in a pool game at the Hong Kong tournament. Although the two sides have met a number of times across the 2019 World Rugby Sevens Series, Fiji last played the Aussies in Happy Valley in 2012. The Fijian 7s were victorious on that occasion beating Australia 22-5 and later went on to win the Hong Kong 7s title defeating New Zealand 35-26.
The 2019 series has seen a seesawing arm wrestle between Australia and Fiji with the boys in White securing victories in Hamilton and Sydney with the boys in Gold taking a 26-15 victory in Las Vegas. With both teams pitted in pool C in Hong Kong this weekend, there is sure to be a great battle between the pacific brothers. Fiji faces Australia in game 2 at 5.13pm on Saturday.
The Gareth Baber-coached side will first face Kenya on Friday at 11.37pm FJT. And fans can expect the usual physical encounter between the two sides. Kenya last played Fiji in Hong Kong in 2014 where the Kenyans were thumped 43-5 by our national team.
