After seven years, the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side will face Australia in a pool game at the Hong Kong tournament. Although the two sides have met a number of times across the 2019 World Rugby Sevens Series, Fiji last played the Aussies in Happy Valley in 2012. The Fijian 7s were victorious on that occasion beating Australia 22-5 and later went on to win the Hong Kong 7s title defeating New Zealand 35-26.

The 2019 series has seen a seesawing arm wrestle between Australia and Fiji with the boys in White securing victories in Hamilton and Sydney with the boys in Gold taking a 26-15 victory in Las Vegas.  With both teams pitted in pool C in Hong Kong this weekend, there is sure to be a great battle between the pacific brothers. Fiji faces Australia in game 2 at 5.13pm on Saturday.

The Gareth Baber-coached side will first face Kenya on Friday at 11.37pm FJT. And fans can expect the usual physical encounter between the two sides. Kenya last played Fiji in Hong Kong in 2014 where the Kenyans were thumped 43-5 by our national team. Having mixed results this season and with Olympic qualification in the back of everyone’s minds, Kenya will surely put up a strong performance against the defending champions.

The final match for Fiji against New Zealand will be a mouth-watering affair for the fans as the two proud teams who share such a rich history in Hong Kong but their bodies and souls on the line. It will be their third consecutive pool game meet since Fiji began their victorious streak in 2015.

Fiji and New Zealand were in same pool in 2017, where the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side defeated All Blacks 7s 17-14. The two teams again met last year at the group stages and Fiji recorded its biggest win over their arch rival 50-7 in the final pool match. The two teams will once again round up the Pool C encounter when they meet at 8.55pm on Saturday. Buckle up Viti fans as our Fiji Airways Fijian 7s rise again for another monster weekend of HSBC World Rugby Sevens action.
