Fiji Hardwood started a new venture with landowners at Sawakasa in Tailevu with the ground breaking ceremony of harvesting mahogany today.

Fiji Hardwood will start harvesting and planting mahogany from the land leased out and landowners are going to reap the benefits.

Fiji Hardwood Chairman Adrian Sofield says it is important to work closely with landowners and move in a positive direction.

“This is Fiji Hardwood’s first venture in Sawakasa which will be of great benefit to the landowners as they will receive 10% of the value of every tree that is harvested,” he said.

Fiji Mahogany Trust Chairperson Serevi Baledrokadroka hopes the venture will encourage landowners to contribute to the industry.

He added landowners will also enjoy monetary return from the contribution.

“We are fortunate to have an opportunity and it is important that we make meaningful contribution in the industry,” said Baledrokadroka .
