Labasa residents gathered at the Subrail Park on Fiji Day to celebrate Fiji’s 50th Anniversary of Independence for members of the community in the Northern Division.
The celebration was officiated by the Assistant Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Youth and Sports Honourable Alvick Maharaj.
Mr. Maharaj also visited the Labasa Elderly Home which he felt very privileged and it was a significant experience for him to be with the senior citizens to celebrate in style with its national theme “Celebrating 50 years of Fijian Independence”.”
Our Senior citizens are what we are today. Their contributions over the years are vital in shaping the future for our young generations. It is through their perseverance, determination, due diligence, and mutual respect that has brought us this far that one can aspire in building a better Fiji.”
“I’m here representing Government to ensure that you, our senior citizens are part of the celebration – You played an important role in our lives and to the nation. We will continue to embrace your teachings and learnings and will ensure that they stream down to the young and future generations of the nation.” Assistant Minister further added.
The Day ended on a positive note whereby the Assistant Minister for Employment, Youth & Sports presented gifts to the senior citizens of the Labasa Elderly Home.
