The Fijian Government congratulated Vanuatu on their 40th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Vanuatu.
Fijian President His Excellency the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote attended the reception dinner for the occasion to mark Fiji and Vanuatu relationship which began in the 1860s.
Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tiko Rasoqosoqo said this relationship started a very special bond which was strengthened by our people to people relationships.
“After independence in 1980, our mutual friendships have grown stronger and these are evidenced by our longstanding bilateral partnerships; Our very close interaction at the regional forums; and our interaction in support and promotion of multilateralism,” he said.
“Fiji looks forward to growing its relations with Vanuatu in the future. We are confident that our two countries will continue to dialogue and advance the best interests of our nations in areas of cooperation.”
