Fiji bounced back from last weekend’s fifth-place finish by taking the Cup silverware at the Cape Town Sevens, beating USA 29-15 in Sunday’s final.
In a one-sided final the Fijians raced into a 22-0 lead and kept their noses in front as they showed their class throughout the weekend.
Host nation South Africa responded from their semi-final loss to Fiji by beating New Zealand 10-5 in a low-scoring Bronze final meeting.
England finished in fifth spot, overcoming an impressive Spain side 14-7, while the Challenge Trophy was claimed by Argentina, who defeated Samoa 38-14. Finally it was Kenya who came out on top in the 13th place final as they edged Wales 33-26.
The World Sevens Series now takes a break until January 26-27 when it restarts in Hamilton before heading to Sydney on February 2-3.
