Former Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Ifereimi Vasu and Acting Deputy Commissioner for FCS Peniasi Kurivitu Kunatuba facing corruption-related charges appeared at the High Court, this morning.

The two appeared before Judge Justice Chandana Prematilaka on mention for their appeal matter.

Vasu and Kunatuba have been charged with one count of abuse of office each by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

FICAC alleges that in 2017 Vasu facilitated and approved the purchase
of goods worth over $131,000 from the Naboro Mini-Mart in which he was a
company Director.

Kunatuba was also charged with one count of abuse of office for
allegedly facilitating and approving the purchase of goods worth
$54,000.

Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Chandana Prematikala has given time to both parties to file their submissions.

FICAC has to file submissions by the 22nd of next month while the respondents, Kunatuba and Vasu will have to file their response before the 19th of August.
