The Fiji Council of Social Services says public service managers should take a progressive pay cut in the next financial year.

Executive Director Vani Catanasiga says Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and chief executive officers receiving $200,000 per annum and higher in salary should take a 50 percent pay cut.

A progressive pay cut schedule for those earning from $300,000 and above across government and statutory bodies should be instituted immediately.

FCOSS’ budget submission also proposes that civil servants earning $50,000 per annum and less must be exempted from all proposed pay cuts in the next six months at least.

The submission also suggests a six months freeze on all government and statutory management and board performance pays and allowances except travel allowances.
