Farming equipment’s to the tunes of one point eighty two million dollars has been donated to the Fijian Government by the government of Japan.
This is to ensure that our rural communities are better prepared and resilient enough to withstand the impact of natural disasters and extreme weather patterns
These equipment include 4 excavators, nine tractors and 20 chainsaws that will be utilized by the Ministry of Waterways.
Officiating at the handover Permanent Secretary to the Office of the Prime Minister Yogesh Karan says the machines will be used to assist sugar and rice farmers in Fiji in ensuring proper drainage for their farms and communities.
Japan’s Ambassador to Fiji Masahiro Omura in handing out the equipment’s reiterates the threat of natural disasters has been and will be increasing due to climate change, therefore strengthening of disaster preparedness and response is crucial in saving lives and minimizing risks associated with disasters.
The equipment together with its implements was procured under Japan’s grant aid scheme, the Economic Social Development Programme.
