National Sports Commission hopes to get around five million dollars when the 2020 to 2021 national budget is announced later this week.

As the Covid-19 pandemic took a toll on the economy, the National Sports Commission is expecting a cut in the budget next year.

Sports are expected to take a back seat to other pressing priorities when the national budget is announced on Friday.

The National Sports Commission received 10 million in last year’s budget allocation, but will not be surprised if the allocation is reduced by half.

It is also believed that there won’t be any grants allocated in the budget for Fiji to host international sporting events.

The Fiji National Sports Commission has submitted its budget proposal of more than six million dollars and they will only know on Friday what they have received for the next financial year when the National Budget Announcement is made.
