Never has the city of Suva’s central business district looked like this on a Friday afternoon.

Empty streets – closed stores and amusement parks closed off as the capital entered the first day of lockdown.

The normal buzz of what is usually one of the busiest days of he week – glaringly absent.

In line with goverment’s directive to close off Suva city to the nearest towns – people stayed home.

Businesses NOT on the essential service list – remained closed.

About half of the usual number of market vendors returned to business today – but to a drastically reduced demand with thousands of workers staying home.

The country’s first city – the second to go into lockdown as government orders strict measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 which has now reached seven.
