It was an emotional moment for many Fijians as The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry unveiled the statue commemorating Sergeant Talaiasi Labalaba.
Also present at the unveiling was His Excellency the President Major-General (retired) Jioji Konrote, Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama and the son of the late Talaiasi Labalaba – Isaia Dere.
Labalaba who was involved in the Battle of Mirbat on July 19th 1972 – fired a 25 pounder single handedly in spite of being seriously wounded against attacking guerrilla forces.
The Special Air Service (SAS) Sergeant was shot dead at the age of 30.
