“Agriculture is the basic industry of most countries in the South Pacific and earnings from agricultural production are one of the main source of livelihood for rural communities.”
Speaking at the launch of the $4.8 million euro African Caribbean Pacific (ACP) European Union and International Fund for Agricultural Development Funded project – Farmer Organization for Africa, Caribbean and the Pacific (FO4ACP), Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, Waterways and Environment, Dr Mahendra Reddy said the role of farmer organizations is important in supporting agricultural development.
“Farmers organization can also help leverage external financial support to upskill farmers and assist in excessing mechanization support,” said Hon. Reddy
Reddy said we need to strength and resource our commercial farmers, organize markets for them, help them secure least cost inputs, facilitate learning of pest practices, minimize losses from pest and diseases, natural disasters, and climate change issues.
